Welcome to Sonam Sultana Soma’s website, where you will get to know the inspiring journey of a Bangladeshi female National Table Tennis Player who has made her mark both nationally and internationally.

Soma started playing table tennis at a young age in the year 2000 and eventually became the number one table tennis player in Bangladesh. She proved her talent at an early stage of her career by winning numerous titles in junior level national competitions and quickly became one of the country’s top female table tennis players.

Born on 11th November 1987 in Narail District, Soma gives credit to her childhood club adjacent to her home where many young players used to play table tennis. She became very fond of the game, and her cousin, former national table tennis champion Saleha Begum, inspired her to become a table tennis player. However, she says that her main inspiration was her mother, a passionate lover of sports who encouraged her.

After becoming a junior national champion, Soma became a national runner-up (senior) and ultimately won the national title four times, ranking number one at the national level. She has also represented Bangladesh in numerous international championships and brought pride to her country by winning several medals.

Soma’s achievements in her sports career include winning double silver medal in South Asian Junior Table Tennis championship-2003, bronze medal in team event at South Asian Games-2010, doubles bronze in team event at 13th South Asian Games-2019, and several national championships.

Soma has won the girls’ national championship four times, the federation cup championship nine times, and the national championship ten times by single and team events. She has also won many other championships at the national level, including the Dhaka Mahanagari League Champion since 2003 until 2022.

Soma’s international championships include the 19th Asian Table Tennis Championship-2009, World Table Tennis Championship-2013, 23rd Asian Championship-2017, Asian Championship-2019, Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship-2019, 13th South Asian Games-2019, 25th Asian championship-2019, World table tennis championship-2019, Commonwealth Games-2022, and Islamic Solidarity Games-2021.
